Stable, Low-Impact Support for Trails, Launches, and Nature Paths

Building Access Without Harming the Environment

Atlas Piers specializes in foundation systems for environmental walkways, boardwalks, and access paths in sensitive natural areas. From swampy wetlands to riverbanks, we install deep foundation systems that provide long-term support with minimal ground disturbance—helping parks, municipalities, and environmental organizations create safe, sustainable access to nature.

Whether it’s a kayak launch, shoreline trail, or nature preserve boardwalk, we deliver solutions that respect the terrain and preserve what makes these environments special.

Proven in Wetlands. Trusted by Municipalities.

We understand the complexity of building in protected or difficult terrain. Our team has experience installing helical pile systems in wet, soft, and inaccessible areas where traditional concrete foundations would be invasive, impractical, or outright prohibited.

Applications for Environmental Walkway Projects

  • Wetland and swamp boardwalk foundations
  • Floating dock and kayak launch supports
  • Shoreline trail access points
  • Nature preserve and greenway walkways
  • Educational platform anchoring
  • Parks and recreation trail extensions
  • Environmentally sensitive area crossings

Project Spotlights

Spelman Underpinning

Spelman College Foundation Stabilization

Atlas Piers stabilized the foundation of historic Spelman College, founded in 1881. Working on a structure more than a century old required precise planning to reinforce aging foundation conditions while preserving the integrity of the building.

Bentonville, AR Boardwalk

Atlas Piers installed a boardwalk foundation for a private residence in an environmentally sensitive area with an active beaver habitat. Using floating excavators and a Marsh Master, helical piers were installed without disturbing the dam or surrounding wildlife—eliminating the need for concrete while providing a stable, long-lasting foundation.

Jacksonville Post Office Mezzanine

Atlas Piers reinforced the Jacksonville Post Office’s foundation to support a new mezzanine by doubling the capacity of the columns. Their solution, directly attaching the pile to the footing, increased load capacity from 300,000 to 600,000 pounds, setting a new record for high-capacity micropiles.

Why Environmental Designers Choose Atlas Piers

Proven in Water-Heavy Terrain

Our systems are designed to perform in saturated, low-density, and flood-prone soils where other methods fail.

Non-Invasive Approach

We use helical piles that screw into the ground—no excavation, no concrete, no curing time, and no hauling in heavy materials across protected areas.

Fast, Clean Installations

We can install hundreds of piles in just days with no soil spoils or environmental damage, keeping your permitting and project timeline on track.

Municipal & Parks Department Ready

We understand public project requirements and provide the documentation needed for environmental review, public bidding, and inspections.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you install walkways in protected wetlands?

Yes. Our systems are ideal for wetlands and protected zones because they minimize disruption and require little excavation or concrete.

Do you provide designs for boardwalks?

No—we install foundations and collaborate with your project team, but do not offer design or stamped drawings.

How long do your foundations last in water-heavy areas?

Our helical pile systems are highly durable, corrosion-resistant, and engineered for long-term use in high-moisture environments.

What equipment do you use?

We use small, track-mounted equipment capable of reaching sensitive or remote areas without damaging the ground or vegetation. We have even used floating equipment to work in areas that are covered by water.

Working With Environmental Engineers and Planners

Atlas Piers does not design the walkway—but we’re here to make it possible. We collaborate with your landscape architect, civil engineer, or parks department to:

  • Recommend foundation systems that meet environmental goals
  • Provide torque and load specs for permit applications
  • Install with certified crews using low-ground-pressure equipment
  • Verify performance with load testing when required

We’re not just installers—we’re your environmental access partner.
